Audience research 1

In the stage before we could actually continue developing our idea and start to film we first had to carry out some audience feedback to find out what would work best for our audience. Here are some graphs showing the resulting answers from the questions we posed to 30 people.

"What genre of music do you listen to?"
We thought it was best to first figure out what genre of music our audience preferred. From the results we got we found out that pop was the favourite winning as 30% of people claiming it was their favorite genre. This was good news for us as it meant that the song we chose would appeal to the largest amount of people and it also meant that the feedback we were going to get for the rest of our questions would be relevant for our music video genre but would also give us insight into what other audiences like so that we could appeal to the largest number of people.

"What type of music video's do you watch?"
We thought it was important to figure out which type of music video was the most popular among our audience. From the results we found that people preferred parody style music videos however we thought it would be too difficult to do a complete parody music video. Narrative was a close second and we had originally wanted to make a narrative music video so we decided to stick with the idea of making a narrative music video. Although due to the overwhelming positivity for comedy we decided to incorporate a comical element into our music video.

"Most important characteristic of a pop video?"

We thought it was a good idea to find out what our audience thought were the biggest factors that make up a music video. We found that the top three factors for our audience were the link between the lyrics and the visuals, editing to the beat and the narrative. Due to this result we decided to focus more on developing these areas of our music video, paying close attention to creating a link between the lyrics and the visuals, and the narrative. We will be doing this by continuously incorporating the idea of cool kids vs un cool kids into the narrative of our music video and making the narrative a big component of our music video. Also as editing to the beat is considered very important to our audience we will be focusing on making this as effective as possible.
